Antique German Painting, Still Life With Seashells

An antique German painting from the late 19th century. Thisoil-on-canvas work—retained on its original canvas—depicts astill life featuring seashells, ceramics, and finely ornateglassware, all executed to a high standard. The painting is signed"A. Laupheimer" in the lower right corner (see photo) andcan be attributed to the German artist Anton Laupheimer (1848–1927);however, it lacks a formal certificate of authenticity. The piece,which is well-proportioned and of a substantial size, is housed in anattractive, carved, and gilded wooden frame. The composition ishorizontal and showcases a masterful use of color—notably theexquisite pearlescent tone employed by the artist at the center ofthe work to render the interior of a seashell (see photo).
