Large Gilded Mirror From The Revolutionary Era

A revolutionary-era mirror from the late Louis XVI/Consulate period, gilded with gold leaf, in perfect condition. The original mercury-coated glass has a few "normal wear" pitting marks, but these blend very well with the overall appearance, which remains in perfect condition. The mirror is mounted on a wooden backing, secured to the carved, molded wooden frame by a fitting that holds the mercury-coated glass in place. Whether hung vertically or horizontally, this mirror will fit seamlessly into both classic and modern interiors thanks to its understated lines. This type of mirror is becoming increasingly rare, as many have already been exported due to their compatibility with contemporary interiors. (The lines or grooves are inspired by the lictor’s fasces, a legacy of the Roman Republic, whose symbols were adopted during the French Revolution.)
