Double-helical Staircase, 20th Century
A double-helix staircase, a master’s piece created by a journeyman to advance to a higher rank—for example, from journeyman to master. Crafted from solid walnut, this double staircase winds in helical spirals around an imposing central axis. The steps feature risers, and the railings are adorned with turned balusters. The staircases begin at a base and end at landings. This style is inspired by the magnificent staircase at the Château de Chambord.
You can imagine the precise calculations required to design the spirals and determine the number of steps.
This piece carries significant symbolism: 21 steps, a base diameter of 33 cm, a parallel to Jacob’s Ladder.
A unique, rare piece, 55 cm tall and weighing 6 kg.
