Still Life With Fruit, Vegetables, Fish, Shellfish, And Ham, 17th Century
Painting oil on canvas measuring 118 x 148.5 cm unframed and 133 x 163 cm with a beautiful period frame, depicting fruits, vegetables, fish, shellfish, and ham by the painter Angelo Maria Rossi (active in Milan during the second half of the 17th century.)
The literary history of this formidable still-life artist began in the mid-1980s thanks to Luigi Salerno, who finally succeeded in distinguishing his works from those of other similar painters.
We can say that Angelo Maria Rossi’s principal characteristic lies in the luminous emphasis he places on his subjects, at times achieving veritable iridescent effects of red, yellow, and green in his depictions of peaches, apples, quinces, and pears.
In the center of this large canvas appears a variety of subjects, including a crab, a fish, and mushrooms, rendered with exquisite craftsmanship and bold color shifts that make the work—which is structured by diagonal lines—captivating.
