View of Florence in the Distance –
71.5 x 70.5
Aurelio Catti (Palermo, 1895–1966)
The son of painter Michele Catti, his works reflect his father’s influence, drawing inspiration from the paintings of De Nittis and Leto, while at the same time developing an original and personal artistic style. He is distinguished by a unique approach to painting, alternating between cityscapes—rich in detail and vivid depictions of daily life—and more intimate, contemplative landscapes, in which light and color play a fundamental role. Catti uses a palette based on shades of gray and cool colors, which lend his works a rarefied, almost fantastical atmosphere. He attended architecture courses at the Brera Academy and later undertook a study trip to London. He also lived in Trieste, where he participated in the First Exhibition of Artists and Artisans in Arms, receiving an honorary diploma. Aurelio Catti is an emblematic figure in Italian art: a painter capable of conveying, through his work, the beauty and complexity of the reality around him, leaving an indelible mark on the artistic landscape of his time.
