Satirical Lithograph By Honoré Daumier (1808–1879) From "les Gens De Justice," Plate 21
Lithograph from Honoré Daumier’s famous series “Les Gens de Justice,” with the print number 130/500 written in pencil in the lower left corner and the inscription “by H. Daumier” in the lower right corner.
This series is a satirical collection of 38 editorial cartoons published in the newspaper “Le Charivari” from 1845 to 1848 and later compiled into a book titled “Les Gens de Justice,” a monumental work of social caricature that dissects, with biting irony, the inner workings of the 19th-century judicial system. Today, the entire original album is carefully preserved in the collections of the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF)
The lithograph is in very good condition, though yellowed. It is presented in a shaded wooden frame, under glass that matches it perfectly.
