Important Pair Of Vases In Old Brussels Style
Artist: Vermeren
A rare and beautiful pair of vases signed “Veuve Vermeren Coché” circa 1870, made of polychrome porcelain; one depicts Louis Pasteur and the other Galen in hand-painted medallions, with floral decorations on the back, with beveled bases featuring gilded raised bands.
Distinctive bronze-effect handles in matte-gilded porcelain with scrollwork terminating in lion’s paws.
A few chips on the foot of one (see photo); the gilding on one vase is more worn than on the other.
Provenance: a pharmacy in the Belgian capital.
