Carpenters' Rondel
A rondel painted in grisaille and silver yellow on clear glass and set in a lead frame composed of pieces in pink, aqua green, peach, and blue cives.
A large yellow-orange circle frames the figurative scene in the 17th-century Dutch or Flemish style. At the center of the composition are two men: a gentleman (wearing a wide-brimmed hat, ruff, doublet, and long coat) watches as a man bent under the weight of a heavy sack passes by.
A piece of roof truss, a town with a bell tower, and birds can be made out in the background; on the right, a horizontal millstone and a stonemason with a hammer. The grisaille is rendered with finesse, using hatching and modeling in the style of an engraving, and silver-yellow highlights accentuate the details.
