Bronze Sculpture, *dancer With A Tambourine*, Signed *dubois* (1827–1905)
Artist: Paul Dubois
Bronze sculpture with a beautiful patina; a medallion depicting a young woman leaning against a column and holding a tambourine in one hand andother a shawl draped along her body.
Very beautiful and delicate engraving
Signed “Dubois” on the base.
Paul Dubois was born in Nogent-sur-Seine in 1827 and died in Paris in 1905.
The son of a notary, he first studied law but, drawn to sculpture, enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in 1858, where he remained for a year before spending four years in Italy—notably in Florence—and discovering Florentine Renaissance sculpture, which would leave an indelible mark on his art.
He became curator of the Louvre Museum in 1873, a member of the Institut de France in 1876, and director of the École des Beaux-Arts in 1878.
