Miniature Painting In A Gilt-bronze Frame Late 19th Century
Artist: S. Leaverd
A refined, oval, late 19th-century miniature reproducing the famous self-portrait
of Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun embracing her daughter, Jeanne-Lucie-Louise (the original work is held
at the Louvre Museum).
This delicate painting is distinguished by the fineness of its execution, the freshness of its colors,
and the gentle rendering of skin tones and drapery. The work is signed on the right: "S. Leaverd."
The piece is enhanced by its original 19th-century gilt-bronze (or brass) frame,
finely chased with foliate motifs, guilloché patterns, and beadwork, and topped with an elegant bow
in the Louis XVI style. On the reverse, the frame retains its original easel stand
as well as a ring for hanging.
