17th-century Walnut Travel Desk
A rare and interesting travel desk made of walnut, walnut veneer, and boxwood inlay.
The turned base is still in the Louis XIII style; its top is surrounded by a molding, and the desk fits into it like the base of a chest. It opens to reveal a front drawer fitted with its original wrought-iron “carriage knob.”
The top opens to reveal a flap covering three single drawers; the lock is a later addition, but its wrought-iron plate is also original.
Beautiful waxed patina; crafted in the South of France.
