Irish Antique Celtic Sterling Silver Potpourri Jar Weir Sons Dublin 1932 253g
Irish Sterling Silver Potpourri Jar – Weir & Sons Dublin – 1932 – John Burke Presentation – 253g
A fine Irish sterling silver potpourri jar in the Celtic Revival taste, retailed by Weir & Sons of Dublin and hallmarked for 1932. Crafted in solid sterling silver, the piece stands approximately 14cm high by 9cm wide and weighs an impressive 253 grams.
The cylindrical body is raised on three elegant cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, each mounted with ornate Celtic knot medallions in relief. A richly chased band of traditional Irish interlace decoration encircles both the upper body and lower section of the lid, displaying the high-quality craftsmanship associated with Dublin silver of the period.
The detachable domed cover culminates in a beautifully pierced openwork grille with flowing foliate and scroll motifs, allowing the piece to function as a potpourri or scent jar. The polished front is engraved:
“JOHN BURKE.”
“11TH SEPT. 1961.”
The underside and rim bear the Dublin sterling hallmarks together with the retailer’s mark for the prestigious firm of Weir & Sons.
A particularly decorative and substantial example of Irish Celtic Revival silver, combining elegant form with excellent weight and strong visual presence. Ideal for collectors of Irish silver, Celtic design, or high-quality early 20th century decorative objects.
