Pair Of Gilded Bronze Candlesticks – Regency Period, Early 18th Century
A pair of gilded bronze candlesticks from the Regency period, dating from the early 18th century.
Each candlestick rests on a scalloped and molded base, richly decorated with foliage and geometric motifs. The highly architectural shaft features several panels decorated with chiseled medallions, before rising to a finial and a wide candleholder with a scalloped rim.
The finesse of the chiseling, the quality of the cast bronze, and the beautiful patina of the gilding attest to the meticulous craftsmanship characteristic of the Regency period, a time of transition between the rigidity of the Louis XIV style and the more fluid forms of the Louis XV style.
