Christopher Lawrence Dunhill Sterling Silver Gilt Vermeil Rollagas Table Lighter
Christopher Lawrence for Alfred Dunhill Sterling Silver & Vermeil “Twist” Rollagas Table Lighter, London 1974
Designed by Christopher Lawrence for Alfred Dunhill, this sculptural Twist Rollagas table lighter is crafted in solid sterling silver with a rich gold-plated (vermeil) finish. Hallmarked for London, 1974, it bears the sponsor’s mark “AD” for Alfred Dunhill together with the London Assay Office marks and the sterling silver lion passant.
The lighter is formed as a bold twisting geometric column with a square base, the entire exterior engraved with a finely executed bark-textured surface that spirals organically around the body. The concealed ignition mechanism is seamlessly integrated into the upper section, preserving the clean sculptural profile while maintaining full functionality. The underside is stamped with the dunhill signature together with the complete set of British hallmarks.
Designed by Christopher Lawrence during the 1970s, the Twist model is regarded as one of Dunhill’s most distinctive Modernist table lighter designs, combining sculptural form with the engineering quality for which the firm’s Rollagas lighters are renowned.
The lighter measures approximately 14.5 cm in height, 4.5 cm square at the base tapering to approximately 2.3 cm across the upper body, and weighs approximately 275 grams.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The vermeil finish remains well preserved with light, even wear commensurate with age and careful use. The bark-textured decoration is crisp, the hallmarks are clear and legible, and the mechanism appears complete.
