George IV Sterling Silver Wine Cooler, London 1827, Benjamin Smith Ii
Of campana form with naturalistic marine decoration. The shaped rim is applied with coral-like encrustations above a finely chased fluted neck. The plain body is applied with an anchor, a buoy and a compass, bound by twisted rope forming the two handles. The stem is modelled as finely chased dolphins, on a circular base. Engraved: Hamlet, Silversmith to the King (Thomas Hamlet, Royal goldsmith).
