18th-century Red Deer Antler Trophy, 18 Points, Dated 1755, Possibly From The D

An extraordinary and historically significant 18th-century Central European red deer antler trophy (Cervus elaphus), featuring an impressive 18-point rack and bearing an inscription dated 1755.

Distinguished by its substantial proportions, remarkable symmetry and exceptional historical character, this magnificent hunting trophy represents a fascinating survival from the aristocratic hunting traditions of 18th-century Central Europe.

The original red deer antlers are mounted with a carved wooden stag's head, creating a commanding sculptural display.

An Impressive 18-Point Red Deer Trophy

The antlers display an imposing configuration of 18 points, with exceptionally developed brow tines, substantial beams and prominent coronets.

The two main beams measure approximately 104 and 105 cm, demonstrating a remarkable degree of symmetry.

The brow tines measure approximately 51 and 49 cm, while the coronet circumferences are approximately 28 cm each.

The maximum antler spread is approximately 62 cm, and the combined weight of the antlers is estimated at 9 kg.

These substantial measurements, together with the harmonious configuration of the rack, distinguish the trophy as an impressive example of historical European red deer hunting.

All measurements and weights are approximate. The trophy has not been officially assessed or certified under the CIC scoring system.

Dated 1755 — A Remarkable Historical Inscription

Of particular historical interest is the inscription bearing the date 1755, which provides an important reference for the trophy's proposed 18th-century origin.

Research into the historical inscription suggests a possible connection with the Babitzer Revier, a hunting district associated with Babitz or Babice in Bohemia.

Later historical documentation identifies a Babitzer Revier within the forestry administration of Koloděje, Bohemia, an area connected with the extensive estates of the princely House of Liechtenstein.

Nineteenth-century estate records also document Gross- und Klein-Babitz among Liechtenstein properties.

These geographical and archival correspondences provide a compelling historical context for the trophy, although its precise provenance in 1755 has not yet been conclusively established.

The Aristocratic Hunting Traditions of Central Europe

During the 18th century, red deer hunting occupied an important place in the ceremonial and social life of the European aristocracy.

Great hunting trophies were displayed in princely residences, hunting lodges and ancestral collections as symbols of prestige, territorial ownership and sporting achievement.

The House of Liechtenstein maintained extensive estates in Bohemia and Moravia, where forestry and hunting formed an important part of estate administration.

The present trophy may be considered within this broader aristocratic hunting tradition, although no documentary evidence currently establishes ownership by, or a direct personal connection with, an individual member of the Liechtenstein family.

Historical and Collectible Importance

The combination of an inscribed 18th-century date, substantial antler mass, 18 points and unusually balanced proportions gives this trophy considerable decorative and historical interest.

Its imposing appearance recalls the great historical antler collections preserved in Central European castles and hunting residences.

Unlike more recent decorative hunting trophies, this example is accompanied by a specific historical inscription that offers a valuable starting point for further archival investigation.

A magnificent collector's piece for an important hunting lodge, château, historic interior or collection of European sporting antiques.
