Round Neoclassical Coffee Table In Brass With A Beaded Gallery. White Marble Top And Lo. French
Artist: Maison Jansen
This coffee table features a circular top of grey-veined white marble set within a brass rim adorned with an openwork beaded gallery. Four tapered and fluted legs, ending in spinning-top feet, are joined by a stretcher with curved branches bearing at its centre a circular shelf of mirrored glass surmounted by a finely chased acorn finial.
This neoclassical vocabulary - beaded gallery, fluted legs, acorn finial - is characteristic of the productions of Maison Jansen, the great Parisian decorating house founded in 1880, supplier to the royal courts and to the most prestigious residences, whose brass and marble coffee tables are among the most sought-after models.
Condition report: Good overall condition. Sound marble with beautiful veining, brass with an even gilt patina, the mirrored glass . A coffee table of great elegance, a centrepiece for a classic or contemporary sitting room.
