Water And Forestry / Forest Rangers Uniform – Early 20th Century.

Rare Regulation Uniform of the Water and Forestry Administration / Forest Rangers – Early 20th Century (Jacket + Trousers + Insignia)

Description:
A very fine, complete uniform set belonging to an officer of the Water and Forestry Administration / the elite Forest Rangers corps, dating from the early 20th century, specifically the 1920s (subsequently, the Forest Rangers corps evolved with the creation of the Forest Sappers corps from 1927 to 1945). This ensemble, made of heavy “finance green” (dark forest green) cloth, attests to the militarized status of this elite administration during periods of general mobilization. The lot includes:

  • The straight-cut tunic: In excellent condition. Straight collar with light green (daffodil-colored) collar tabs adorned with embroidered hunting horns. All original brass buttons are present, stamped with the hunting horn motif. On the back, the buttons have been replaced with hunting buttons
  • The military acceptance tag: Still present inside the lining of the breeches, listing the master tailor/supplier “ J. POPLIN”, attesting to the strictly regulation-compliant and official nature of the garment.
  • The riding breeches / cavalry pants: Made of the same forest-green cloth, with its highly distinctive historical closure system featuring eyelet lacing and flat buttons at the bottom of the legs (designed for wearing gaiters or boots).
  • The set of 5 insignia and chest pins accompanying the uniform:
    • Large circular hunting horn (beret/chest insignia of the Chasseurs à pied)
    • Official green and gold enamel insignia “ Louveterie – Piqueur” (choice piece, rare)
    • Relief woodcock hunting brooch
    • Hunting party pin adorned in the center with a relief head of a Saint-Hubert hound
    • Metal badge for qualified marksman (crossed rifles)
    • St. Hubert Club of France badge—Society for the Protection of Hunting and Hound Hunting (poor condition).

Condition:
Good overall condition for its age. The wool fabric has retained its beautiful freshness and deep color. Ideal for mounting on a themed mannequin or for a collector of hunting, hound hunting, and French militaria.
