Pair Of Large Covered Vases In Saxon Porcelain By Helena Wolfsohn, Circa 1880
Artist: Fabrique D’ Helena Wolfsohn
Pair of large lidded vases made of Saxon porcelain from the workshop ofHelena Wolfsohn (Dresden, Germany, circa 1880), measuring 51 cm in height and bearing the monogram “AR” painted in blue beneath the base. Each piece, featuring a baluster-shaped body set against an intense cobalt blue background, displays on its main side a large, hand-painted gallant scene inspired by Jean-Antoine Watteau, depicting couples in period costume, while the other side features a large bouquet of natural flowers in the Saxon style. The slightly flared rim is adorned with a delicate geometric latticework design and cross-hatching gilded with fine gold—a matching ornamental motif found on the base of the domed lid; the lid is embellished with a miniature scene on one side, a cascade of flowers on the other, and crowned by a fully gilded button-shaped fretel.
