Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824–1887) was one of the most prolific artists of the 19th century and enjoyed his greatest success during the Second Empire, benefiting from the support of Napoleon III.
His work was greatly influenced by the Italian Renaissance style and by the 18th-century style, which he helped bring back into fashion.
A large number of artists worked in his studio, including Auguste Rodin.
