Set of six Directoire-period chairs in solid cherry wood.
These chairs are distinguished by the finesse of their handcrafted cabinetry, executed identically on all six pieces.
The upper crossbar is carved in the form of a draped lambrequin with festoons and a central pompon motif reminiscent of passementerie. The ends of the crooked legs are topped with stylized bird heads (swans/eagles) finely carved from solid wood. The middle crossbar is adorned with a central openwork medallion featuring a blooming rose motif. Generously wide straw covering. Traditional, period-style straw seating on 3 chairs and traditionally reupholstered straw seating on 3 others.
Sound structure with a beautiful, warm, natural blond patina. Stable.
