Giuseppe Cappè – Figure With Dog, Polychrome Ceramic

A polychrome ceramic sculpture by the artist Giuseppe Cappè (1921–2008), depicting an elegant male figure accompanied by a dog. The figure, portrayed in a deliberately theatrical and nonchalant pose, is characterized by the artist’s typical ironic and caricatural style. The facial expression is particularly well executed, with the head slightly tilted and a smug look in the eyes, as is the movement of the hands, which lends great liveliness to the composition. The details of the clothing are meticulously rendered, from the hat to the jacket, the vest, and the handkerchief tied around the neck. At the figure’s feet is a small dog, modeled with great naturalism, which pleasantly completes the scene. The delicate polychromy, the brilliance of the glazed ceramic, and the meticulous modeling of the details are characteristic of Giuseppe Cappè’s work, which is particularly appreciated for his genre figures with an ironic and narrative character.Artist: Giuseppe Cappè (1921–2008)Material: polychrome glazed ceramicHeight: 23 cmWidth: 13.5 cmPeriod: second half of the 20th century.
