Small Marquetry Coffee Table, Transition Style – 1940

This elegant bean-shaped table, crafted from rosewood and mahogany marquetry in the true spirit of the Transition style, embodies the harmonious blend of curves inherited from the Louis XV period and the emerging austerity of the Louis XVI period. Its delicately curved kidney shape gives it a feminine and fluid silhouette.
The tabletop is meticulously edged with an openwork brass rail and a chiseled mold.
The ornate front opens to reveal two drawers fitted with bronze leaf-motif handles.
The side panels are embellished with finely crafted bronze finials forming feminine figures. The curved legs are also adorned with trim that enhances the base of the piece. The sides of the piece are decorated with childlike figures, and the back features a magnificent scene of cherubs kissing.
This small table, both decorative and functional, embodies the excellence of French furniture: a piece with character, where every line, every material, and every ornament tells a story of taste, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance.
