Large 19th-century Kerosene Lamp—baccarat Glass / Gilded Bronze / Cameos
A very elegant and original late 19th-century oil lamp, featuring a rich design in the Louis XVI / Neoclassical style.
It rests on a substantial circular green marble base, topped by a particularly refined architectural structure composed of slender fluted bronze columns with an antique patina and gilded bronze.
The upper section features a superb green glass reservoir with finely textured decoration, which we attribute to Baccarat. It retains its original kerosene lamp mechanism as well as its large clear glass tube.
Another highlight of this lamp is its remarkable decoration of cameo-style medallions, arranged around the frame. Executed in white on a blue background, they depict various classical subjects and are set within delicate gilded bronze frames adorned with ribbon bows, a motif characteristic of the Louis XVI decorative repertoire.
The frame is particularly well-crafted: fluted columns, leaves, ribbons, plant motifs, and gilded elements come together to form a very elegant whole. The contrast between the vibrant green of the glass, the blue-and-white medallions, the gilded bronze, and the green marble gives this lamp a striking presence.
A rare decorative piece, particularly noteworthy for the quality and richness of its mount.
