Very Large Louis XIV-period Chest Of Drawers With Marquetry – Late 17th / Early 18th Century
A substantial and highly decorative Louis XIV-era chest of drawers, featuring rich marquetry made from various types of wood.
The front features four drawers arranged in three rows, with the two upper drawers placed side by side.
Each front is adorned with remarkable marquetry featuring scrollwork, foliage, birds, and stylized motifs, arranged within geometric panels and highlighted by contrasting fillets.
The top, which is particularly interesting, features marquetry with large panels of wood in contrasting shades, bordered by fillets and finished with a dynamic, molded edge.
The sides are also decorated with marquetry panels featuring floral and plant motifs, reflecting the care taken with the entire piece.
The chest rests on small flattened ball feet.
The dark frames on the front particularly highlight the richness of the woods and the delicacy of the decoration.
This antique piece retains the marks, signs of wear, restorations, and imperfections associated with its age, which are particularly visible on the top.
These features are shown in the photographs and contribute to the authenticity of this distinctive chest of drawers.
