Bookcase With Marquetry And Inlay – Charles X / Biedermeier Style – 19th Century
A beautiful and substantial 19th-century display bookcase, featuring an elegant three-section design and a stunning burl wood finish in shades of blond and amber.
The central section opens with a large glass door, revealing several shelves for displaying books, collectibles, or porcelain.
It is flanked by two solid, slightly curved side doors.
The facades are accented with marquetry bands and adorned with two remarkable medallions featuring allegorical figures in the classical style, crafted in light wood marquetry against a dark background.
Beautiful gilded bronze ornamentation, featuring finely crafted lock plates, small butterflies at the upper corners of the glass door, and elegant front legs adorned with palmettes.
The slightly overhanging upper cornice and the piece’s understated lines give it a particularly elegant appearance, characteristic of the Charles X / Biedermeier style of the first half of the 19th century.
The piece shows signs of use, minor imperfections, missing sections, and visible old restorations, particularly on the cornice, which are consistent with its age and visible in the photographs.
