Gilded and silver-plated bronze cup.
By the bronze castor Victor Paillard.
He joined François Denière’s workshop in 1828,
then worked with Ferdinand Barbedienne
and founded his own company in 1835.
He participated in numerous exhibitions beginning in 1839,
and in the Great Exhibition in London in 1851.
The lid is topped by a bird surrounded
by vine leaves, ears of wheat, and bindweed.
The handles are decorated with vine leaves and grapes.
The central body is adorned with reserved-ground scenes
of cherubs and putti carrying baskets
of fruit and garlands of flowers.
The base is surrounded by fruit and foliage.
It rests on a Portor marble pedestal.
The gilding and silver plating are in excellent condition.
