A. Van Emden Craniometer, Amsterdam, Circa 1840–1860

A brass and iron craniometer designed for taking anthropometric measurements of the skull. The instrument consists of two hinged circular arms and a graduated sector for adjusting and recording measurements. It bears the engraved signature “A. van Emden Amsterdam” and can be attributed to Abraham van Emden, an instrument maker active in Amsterdam during the 19th century.
