Studied at the Academy of Mechelen -
He received the third Belgian Prix de Rome in painting in 1889
After studying at the academies in Brussels (1877–1884) and Antwerp, he worked in Brussels before becoming a teacher at the Academy in his hometown in 1913.
A painter of historical and religious subjects as well as portraits,
Victor Van Dyck began working as a decorative painter in the 1880s. He was commissioned to design the interiors of private mansions in Brussels1.
Among other projects, in 1902, together with Adolphe Crespin, he created the decoration of the Solvay Library, murals in the Max Hallet mansion designed by Victor Horta, and two painted canvases dated 1907 in a residential building at 256 Chaussée d’Haecht2,3.
As he gained expertise in ceiling decoration, he was invited to work in London and Blackpool to create theater ceiling decorations
