Pair of porcelain cookie plates with handles – Maison Lahoche et Pannier, Palais-Royal in Paris - L'Escalier de Cristal – Second Empire period, circa 1855
Description:
Pair of fine porcelain cookie plates from the Second Empire period.
These pieces bear on the reverse the prestigious green-painted mark of Maison Lahoche & Pannier, a famous luxury brand located under the arcades of the Palais-Royal in Paris between 1852 and 1867. This is the mark of L'Escalier de Cristal for this period.
Founded in 1804 by Marie-Jeanne-Rosalie Désarnaud, the renowned Maison de l’Escalier de Cristal was one of the most prestigious art dealers of the 19th century. Renowned worldwide for its exceptional creations combining bronze, crystal, and porcelain, it served as the official supplier to the Crown (during the Restoration and the Second Empire) and to numerous European courts. Pierre-Isidore Lahoche, in partnership with his son-in-law Émile Pannier, led this legendary firm during the golden age of the Palais-Royal, making it the must-visit destination for the high society of the time and winning numerous medals at the World’s Fairs.
Each platter features an asymmetrical central design of flower bouquets, entirely hand-painted, making each piece unique. The scalloped edges are accented by a superb sky-blue combed border, floral garlands, and delicate gold fillets. The molded handles are also embellished with gold highlights.
