Enchiridion Of Pope Leo, Lille, Blocquel, 1813

A curious work comprising prayers, talismans, and Kabbalistic formulas; it bears a false date of 1740 and is attributed to Pope Leo III, who supposedly presented it to Charlemagne. In reality, the text first appeared in the 16th century. This is an edition published in Lille by Blocquel in 1813. A small duodecimo volume of 162 pages (14.5 x 9 x 1.5 cm), illustrated with seven colored plates reproducing pantacles and talismanic figures. It features a preface addressed "To Wise Kabbalists" and stands as a testament to the revival of occult literature in the early 19th century. Bound in a Romantic-style half-calf binding, with a spine decorated in gilt tooling and a red title label, and marbled paper covers.
