Artist: Franco Aloy (1894-1961)
A remarkable portrait of the famous Italian musicologist, composer, pianist, and music critic Giulio Confalonieri (1896–1972). He was a leading figure in the Italian musical and cultural scene of the 20th century. A student of Paul Dukas and Franco Alfano, he distinguished himself both as a virtuoso pianist and as a composer of ballets and operas. An important music critic and essayist, he won the prestigious Bagutta Prize in 1949 for his celebrated biography of Luigi Cherubini (Vita di Cherubini).
The work is signed by Franco Aloy (1894–1961), a highly regarded Italian artist, illustrator, and advertising poster designer of the first half of the 20th century. Known for his work in graphic design and advertising during that period, Aloy has created here a portrait of great compositional rigor and expressive power.
