Antique Linen Sheet Monogrammed "a-m" - Renaissance Richelieu Embroidery - 19th-century Trousseau

A wide and long sheet made of pure, fine linen thread, typical of items made for trousseaus during the 19th century. An exceptional piece, entirely hand-sewn and hand-embroidered, marked with the initials “A-M,” which are depicted using an openwork pattern similar to the “petit jour Venise” or “échelle” style, intertwined with small flowers and stems adorned with tiny leaves. A large floral motif spans the entire width of the center panel and its side panels. This Renaissance embroidery style can be distinguished from Richelieu embroidery by its stitches without barbs. It unfolds generously across two rows: the cloth’s border, with its wide festoons re-embroidered along the edge, and the inner frieze. Numerous hand-stitched stitches serve as decorative fill in various parts of the design, lending the embroidery both elegance and depth in the openwork. 

Condition: Note two small, old repairs—or possibly reinforcement stitches—located within the design of a corner point on the cloth. This is visible in the detailed photos. This imperfection is entirely minor and poses no risk of damaging the fabric or detracting from the overall beauty of the piece (the repairs are very discreet).
