Grand Tastevin d'Honneur, "in Memory Of Minister Philippe Malaud," 1971

A Burgundian ceremonial goblet, also known as the “Grand Tastevin de Confrérie,” made of silver-plated metal, inscribed with “Ph. Malaud” in memory of Minister Philippe Malaud, likely a protocol or official gift presented to the minister during an inauguration, a major wine event in Burgundy, or a chapter meeting of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, of which he was president, silversmith’s hallmark “M, bell G,” corresponding to the Orfèvrerie MG Montibert (sometimes simply called Orfèvrerie Montibert).

Philippe Malaud (1925–2007)
A career diplomat, member of the National Assembly representing Saône-et-Loire, and mayor of Mâcon, Philippe Malaud served as minister and secretary of state under Presidents Charles de Gaulle and Georges Pompidou between 1968 and 1974. Deeply rooted in the Burgundian wine-growing region, he notably presided over prestigious banquets hosted by the famous Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin (such as the renowned winegrowers’ banquet on January 30, 1971, at the Château du Clos de Vougeot).
