Antique Stone Holy Water Font With A Hand-carved Cross – 17th Century

An interesting and rare carved stone holy water font, of ancient craftsmanship, likely dating to the 17th century, characterized by simple craftsmanship and a strong devotional character.

The most fascinating feature is the large, open hand carved in relief, which occupies the central part of the piece. The hand, carved directly into the stone with well-defined, slightly splayed fingers, emerges powerfully from the surface and constitutes a particularly evocative and unusual figurative element.

The composition is further enriched by the presence of crosses carved into the stone, which underscore the object’s religious and devotional purpose.

The basin for holy water is deeply carved into the stone and retains an irregular surface with evident traces of hand carving. The piece as a whole features a beautiful patina and an authentically antique appearance.
