A lovely 19th-century portrait of a woman on paper mounted under glass in an oval gold frame.
The reverse reads:
"Marie Saint-Ange Lege, née Archdeacon, mother of 2 ??? Hebert. 1814–1848".
This refers to Louise Marie Charlotte Archdeacon, who married Saint Ange Lege—a lawyer in the King’s Council—in 1834; they had two children, Gustave and Jeanne Charlotte.
The Archdeacon family is a lineage of Irish origin that settled in France in the 18th century.
The mention of “Hebert”—is this the painter’s name?
