Georges Maroniez offers here a maritime scene in the tradition of the Impressionist painters. Condition:

Good condition. Old restorations with a few localized retouches, not affecting the overall harmony of the composition. A recent professional cleaning has restored the painting's full clarity and brightness, as it might have been admired in the early 20th century. Original giltwood and stucco frame.

Biography:

Georges Philibert-Charles Maroniez (1865-1933), a painter of genre scenes and landscapes, made his mark as early as 1889 at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he became a sociétaire member. Trained under Virginie Demont-Breton and her husband Adrien Demont, he pursued a multifaceted career, combining the roles of examining magistrate and engineer with his passion for painting.

His talent was quickly recognized: an honorable mention in 1891, a third-class medal in 1905, and a second-class medal in 1906. These distinctions culminated in his appointment as a Knight of the Légion d'Honneur, crowning a career marked by rigor and sensitivity.

His works are held in the public collections of Lille, Boulogne-sur-Mer, Cambrai, Douai, and Valenciennes, reflecting his deep ties to the artistic landscape of northern France.
