19th Century French Hammered Copper And Brass Jug With Dolphin Spout

This striking 19th century French lidded jug is crafted from hand-hammered copper with brass mounts and is distinguished by its remarkable zoomorphic dolphin-form spout. Generously proportioned and highly decorative, the vessel combines the warm tones of aged copper with contrasting golden brass details, creating a particularly rich and sculptural appearance.

The large rounded body, displaying the subtle irregularities characteristic of hand-hammered metalwork, rests on a stepped circular brass foot. The tall cylindrical neck is finished with a brass rim and fitted with a substantial arched brass carrying handle. A removable domed copper lid completes the upper section and is surmounted by a small decorative brass finial.

The most distinctive feature is undoubtedly the beautifully modeled brass spout, conceived as a stylized dolphin or sea creature, with the open mouth forming the pouring aperture.
