A pair of richly decorated Venetian console tables dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century (circa 1790–1810). Crafted from carved wood, they feature remarkable polychrome painting and gilding, executed using the Venetian “Lacca Povera” technique—a decorative tradition closely associated with Venetian furniture and characterized by the use of applied printed images combined with painted ornamentation. Each console table features a uniquely shaped, serpentine top with pronounced curves and openwork sides, richly adorned with numerous figurative scenes, elegant period figures, architectural and landscape vignettes, butterflies, and ornamental motifs, all set against an ochre and green background. The curved crossbars are particularly intricately crafted, consisting of a series of hanging elements individually adorned with small figures. The decoration continues onto the carved legs, where additional figures in period costumes appear within painted medallions. The legs are connected by elegant curved crossbars, giving the console table a light and architectural silhouette. The surfaces retain a beautiful antique patina, with crazing, scuffs, chips, and signs of wear characteristic of their age.
