Artist: Georges Braque

Based on a work by Georges Braque (1882–1963), Astéria.

A beautiful embossed print gilded with 23-karat fine gold, based on a design by Georges Braque and created by Baron Heger de Löwenfeld, who collaborated with the artist on the creation of his famous jewelry.

The work is part of the “Homage to Braque’s Jewelry” series, dedicated to the jewelry designs conceived by Georges Braque toward the end of his life and rendered in relief by Heger de Löwenfeld.

On thick, fringed paper, the composition is rendered in deep embossing: the motif, entirely gilded with fine gold, truly stands out from the sheet and gives it an almost sculptural quality.

The subject, Astéria, belongs to the mythological repertoire dear to Braque during the final years of his career. The figure is reduced to a set of powerful, streamlined lines, halfway between drawing, sculpture, and jewelry.

Exemplar numbered 186/200 in pencil.
“G. Braque” signature in relief / dry stamp on the sheet.
Numerous dry-stamped inscriptions on the paper:
"ASTERIA"
"23-karat fine gold"
"Homage to Braque’s jewelry"
Sculpt. Heger de Löwenfeld"

Edition produced around 1970–1971. Copies of this suite are notably documented with the publisher Pierre de Tartas in Paris.

Presented in an elegant custom-made museum-quality frame under glass, with the work float-mounted in a raised presentaiton, anti-reflective and UV-protective glass. Oak border.
