Large bronze head of an Ooni of Ife. Yoruba, Nigeria. A superb piece crafted using the traditional lost-wax casting technique, dating back to the 13th century. These are naturalistic works of exceptional quality. It was following the dissolution of the Kingdom after the capture of Benin City in 1897 that approximately 2.400 objects were brought to Europe by British troops. (We have two different bronzes.)
