This gouache by the Post-Impressionist painter Alexandre Nozal depicts the rushing current of a mountain stream in the Pyrenees. In the center, a couple and their goats are walking along the riverbank at the entrance to a bridge. At the bottom, the mountain stream appears to be churning. On the left is the artist’s signature, “A Nozal.”
Toward the top, pastures stretch in terraces up to the mountain peaks, beneath a beautiful sky “à la Boudin.”
