Through this composition, Corbellini sensitively captures the island’s wild, Mediterranean nature. Here, the painter focuses on the interplay of light and shadow filtering through the vegetation, using a subdued yet warm color palette that evokes the gentle beauty of Corsican landscapes.

Through his watercolors and illustrations, François Corbellini was one of the ambassadors of Corsica’s burgeoning tourism industry. The island’s landscapes were a constant source of inspiration for him. A leading figure of the Ajaccio School in the early 20th century, he devoted a large part of his work to Corsica’s natural sites, from the Calanques of Piana to the surroundings of Ajaccio.

A student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Corbellini was trained by Jean-Léon Gérôme and Gustave Moreau, whose teachings had a lasting impact on his artistic approach.
