Stained Glasses " Rinceaux Et Paysage Lacustre
Set of four painted stained-glass panels, France, circa 1900
Smooth glass painted in grisaille with silver-yellow enamel highlights, leaded using the traditional technique. Each panel is divided into two sections:
Upper section: a design framed by broad gilded (silver-yellow) scrolls and foliate flourishes in the Rocaille/Louis XV style, surrounding scattered painted flowers (roses, daisies, wildflowers) in polychrome grisaille and shades of pink, white, and peach. A bird in flight and a butterfly enliven the composition on one of the panels.
Lower section: a lakeside or river landscape painted in shades of brown (sepia grisaille technique), depicting a wooded bank with reflections on the water, surmounted by a gilded, scrolled cartouche framing the transition between the two scenes. Floral urns and garlands in silver-yellow enamel provide structure to the side borders.
Dimensions: 181 x 158 cm (set of four panels)
Dimensions per panel: H 181 cm x W 39.5 cm
Period: Late 19th/early 20th century (circa 1900); Art Nouveau/Neo-Rocaille style.
