Raynaud Limoges For Céralène – "plaisance" – 65-piece Gold & Platinum Set

Artist: Raynaud

A prestigious 65-piece dinner service made of Limoges porcelain, the “Plaisance” model by Raynaud.

Founded in Limoges in the early 20th century, Raynaud is one of France’s leading porcelain brands. Its history began in 1911, when Martial Raynaud founded his own decorative workshop in Limoges. In 1919, he acquired the Montjovis factory and developed a production line that would give rise to Porcelaines Raynaud.

Over the generations, the company has developed collections that combine classic forms, innovative decorative designs, and sophisticated porcelain decoration techniques. André Raynaud continued this tradition beginning in the 1950s, before Bertrand Raynaud—representing the third generation—succeeded his father in the early 1990s.

It was precisely during this period that the Plaisance model was introduced, in the mid-1990s, around 1994–1995. This Raynaud collection was marketed under the Céralène brand, a brand historically owned by A. Raynaud & Cie.

The Plaisance model is distinguished by a particularly rich decoration combining gold and platinum. A wide silver frieze featuring acanthus leaves and scrollwork runs along the rim of the pieces, framed by gold friezes, laurel motifs, and pearls.

The decoration features exceptionally elaborate craftsmanship: true inlay, double gilding, and agate polishing. This technique gives the gilded sections their brilliant, deep luster, while the combination of gold and platinum creates the model’s characteristic contrast.

This set constitutes a particularly complete dinner service for six people. It includes, notably, twelve dinner plates—allowing for two sets of six plates for two successive courses—as well as twelve medium-sized plates that can be used for appetizers and desserts. The set is rounded out by six soup bowls, six broth cups, six tea cups, and six coffee cups, with their matching saucers—with the exception of one tea saucer.
