This painting, a 19th-century oil on wood, depicts what is believed to be a portrait of Peter Paul Rubens.
It draws directly on the artistic conventions and Baroque models of the 17th century, notably influenced by the famous self-portraits and portraits of Flemish and Dutch masters such as Peter Paul Rubens himself and Frans Hals.
