A superb 19th-century tapestry, directly inspired by the gallant and pastoral scenes of the 18th century (in the style of François Boucher and Jean-Antoine Watteau).

Description of the WorkThe scene takes place in an idyllic garden featuring architectural elements inspired by antiquity. In the foreground, elegant figures lounge by the water’s edge: a young woman in a bright pink draped gown leafs through a book, accompanied by musicians playing stringed instruments. The background reveals a lush landscape featuring a fountain adorned with cupids, a colonnaded temple, and a sculpted sphinx nestled among the foliage.

The composition is framed by an original border simulating a gilded carved frame, embellished with delicate floral garlands and leafy scrollwork.
