Pair Of Flintlock Pistols. Bordeaux, Masonic Engraving
A matching pair of so-called “chest-type” pocket pistols with percussion mechanisms, dating from the mid-19th century (July Monarchy / Second Empire).
Exquisitely crafted masterpieces, likely commissioned specifically for a member of the Freemasons.
Characteristics:
- Period: Circa 1840–1860
- Barrel: Engraved with the gunsmith’s signature and the city of Bordeaux.
- Chest: Finely engraved with scrollwork, garlands, and foliage. The trigger guard features an engraving of Masonic symbols (an interlaced square and compass, accompanied by palmettes).
- Stock: Wood carved with botanical motifs and foliage.
- Mechanism: Central percussion hammer, retractable trigger.
- 13 cm.
- Slight traces of oxidation on the metal parts, intentionally left "in their natural state."
