19th Century French Gilt Bronze Mounted Display Vitrine Cabinet
This elegant French display vitrine dates from the late 19th century and is a particularly decorative example of French furniture from the period. Crafted in richly toned stained walnut, the cabinet is embellished with finely detailed gilt bronze mounts, giving the piece a refined and sophisticated appearance.
The upper section is decorated with an attractive frieze of floral garlands suspended from ribbon bows, while further gilt bronze details accent the edges and the elegant slender legs. The top is finished with a decorative pierced brass gallery, adding to the distinctly French character of the piece.
The vitrine features a large glazed front door together with glazed side panels, allowing the contents to be viewed from several angles. The door retains its decorative escutcheon and key. Inside are three display shelves, providing four separate levels for presenting a collection.
One of the most appealing features is the beautifully lined interior, finished in a rich golden-yellow silk fabric with an elaborate woven floral and foliate design. The warm colour creates a particularly luxurious backdrop for displaying porcelain, glassware, silver, decorative objects or a collection of treasured pieces.
The combination of the warm stained walnut, glass, gilt bronze ornamentation and richly patterned silk gives this vitrine considerable presence while retaining elegant proportions. Some marks, wear and imperfections consistent with age and use are visible, particularly to the wood and interior fabric, adding to the authentic character of this antique piece.
