An etching depicting a young woman sleeping. The print, from a very limited run, is numbered 5/20 in the lower left corner, and the proof is signed in pencil in the lower right corner. The etching measures 17.9 x 12.9 cm at the edge of the plate. The print, on thick Canson-type paper, unfortunately has a few visible spots in the photographs.
Ernest Rouart (Paris 1874–1942) was a French painter, watercolorist, pastel artist, printmaker, and collector. He was one of the four sons of Henri Rouart and the brother of Eugène Rouart, whom he painted around 1900. He married Julie Manet, the daughter of Berthe Morisot and Eugène Manet. Edgar Degas was his teacher in drawing, painting, and likely engraving, and also served as the matchmaker for his marriage to Julie Manet.
